Essay Coaching

Your thoughts, your ideas, your beliefs

The personal statement is an opportunity to tell your tale, and to show how your experiences have contributed to who you are today. What happened is far less important than the impact it left on you. It may have been a major life event, but more often it is the seemingly inconsequential interactions that contribute to our beliefs and substantiate our values.

Telling your story well requires letting the reader hear your real voice. It means showcasing who you are and what you believe. It’s your perspective, informed by your experiences.

We’ll approach the prompt for what it truly is: An opportunity for you to be you.

The Process

Each session is approximately one hour-long, and is customized based on your goals, needs and progress. Once the personal statement is completed, we’ll approach supplemental essays in a concise manner, avoiding redundancies to create an accurate and wholistic portrait.

  1. Students should come to the first session WITHOUT a first draft. Our first session will focus on identifying your hook, the story you’ll use to showcase your perspective as it relates to the essay prompt.
  2. We’ll meet one-on-one, either at a local coffee shop or virtually, to discuss and refine your story. You’ll address the prompt through your personal lens.
  3. Over the course of our work together you will distill your essay down until it represents the most confident and genuine version of you.

My daughter really enjoyed working with Daphne on her college essays. We are very impressed with the final product. The bonus was she was very motivated for her meetings, and we didn’t have to nag her!
